I first heard of Christian Science seven years ago. At that time I was in a miserable state of health, both mentally and physically. My ill health had commenced seven years prior to that time. I was afflicted with serious uterine and attendant maladies, besides which I had always had heart trouble and weak eyes. With all of these ailments I was most miserable. I, however, kept up until my son was seven years old, when we moved to St. Louis. I then broke down and had to call a doctor, who treated me for three months and then performed an operation. For nearly two years I was under the doctor's care, and grew worse in some respects all the time. We tried another doctor for three months, with no better results, and then my thoughts turned to God.

I was in this frame of mind when a lady who called asked me if I had ever heard of Christian Science. I replied that I did not want anything to do with it. She then told me she had been healed through the Science after a number of years of invalidism and after twenty-two physicians had given their verdict of no hope. I was very skeptical, but later went to the lady's home, and she explained the teachings of Science to me very clearly and answered all my questions satisfactorily. She then told me to take her copy of Science and Health and read it through. I took the book home with me, and I shall never forget the peaceful, happy frame of mind I, was in all the way home. I did not then know that I had touched the hem of the seamless robe. I kept the book for a year. The lady called three times and was very loving and kind, and willing to answer all my questions, but never asked me to return the book or to pay for it. One day she called again, and the first thing I did was to pay for the book. We had a long talk on Christian Science, and after she left I was awakened to the fact that I had not had any aches or pains for long time, and that the heart trouble had also disappeared. I knew I was healed from all my complaints, and with this awakening came a humble, thankful, and uplifted feeling. I knew that I lived because God is Life, and in Him is no sickness or sorrow or pain. I thought of my eyes, and immediately book off my glasses and tried to read Science and Health, but could not see to do so. In about three weeks I again tried to leave them off to do my housework, and found I could get along very well; still I could not see to read without them. I kept on declaring the truth, and in about three months I was able to read Science and Health, and from that time I have not worn glasses. My sight has been restored gradually, and I had many a battle with error until I learned to know the truth. I have had to ask my kind friend for treatment and each time Truth has been proved victorious.

I am a member of Second Church of Christ, Scientist, of St. Louis, also of The Mother Church of Christ, Scientist, and while listening to the testimonies one Wednesday evening, the thought came to me, Truly there is but one shepherd and one fold; for, commencing at the Atlantic, every Wednesday evening there is one glad wave of thanksgiving which reaches across the continent to the Pacific, from people who have been delivered from sin, disease, and death. Nor is this all; it reaches across the ocean and is caught up and proclaimed by nearly all nations. I have often thought I would like to see Mrs. Eddy, but I have lately asked myself, If I should look on her personally, would I see her as she is? Then I have turned to Science and Health and found my answer. We cannot separate Mrs. Eddy from the Principle she has revealed to us, and when we understand the Principle we shall see her as she is, and not her personality. I shall therefore strive to have more of that Mind that was in Christ Jesus, and in this way only can I show forth my gratitude to God, and to her, for the help that God sent me through her in my darkest hour.
