Christian Science healed me almost nine years ago,...

Christian Science healed me almost nine years ago, after fifteen long years of suffering and almost constant expense in the way of medical treatment. Our family physician diagnosed my trouble as chronic kidney and bladder disease, with attendant ills. I felt that he could do no more for me, so began taking various remedies and also consulted two specialists. One noted specialist treated me for months, after which I was unable to get up, being much worse than when I began. I was subject to violent attacks of suffering, the cause of which the physicians seldom agreed upon. As time went on my condition became such that an operation seemed inevitable, and two were performed in my home, without any relief whatever, but with increased suffering and aggravated symptoms. It was then decided that I should be sent to a hospital, where I could have more efficient surgery, as all the relief I had was from morphine. I was, accordingly, sent to a hospital, where I remained five weeks and received some relief through an operation. Later another operation was performed, but with little benefit.

While in the hospital a Christian Science practitioner was sent to me by a friend. She remained only a few moments, but when she left a sense of encouragement was experienced. I was taken home, but continued to suffer for three months before I decided to try Christian Science, being at this time much worse. I sent for the practitioner who had called upon me, and several of my troubles were healed during the first treatment. The violent attacks never recurred, and the other troubles gradually disappeared. What materia medica and surgery had failed to do in fifteen years Christian Science accomplished in four months. But the physical was not all. The awakening from darkness to light by far eclipses the physical release. I was brought into such a measure of understanding of man's relation to God that it has been my desire to show others how to be healed, and how to understand that it is Christ, Truth, that does the work. I was one of the thousands who visited Mrs. Eddy's home in Concord in 1903, and heard her request that we "trust in Truth, and have no other trusts."

I thank God that it was my privilege both to see and hear His Messenger to this age; and as I stood with tears coursing down my cheeks I wondered how many others in that great throng owed both physical health and strength, as well as spiritual enlightenment and understanding, to her work and teachings.
