I esteem it a pleasure as well as a duty to give testimony as to my healing of the morphine habit. For a long time I had what the doctors called neuralgia of the stomach, and could get no permanent help. As these attacks came on from time to time, a doctor was called, and he gave me something to quiet the pain. As years went on the attacks became more frequent and severe; then morphine was given me, and soon it was kept in the house all the time. When I felt a spell coming, I would take some, and if that failed to relieve I would take more. I soon found that I could not get along without it. It seemed to hold me in its power. I did not care to eat and could not sleep at night. During this time I was trying to live a Christian life, was a member of an orthodox church, and a Sunday school teacher. I felt the use of this drug to be a sin and I prayed God to take it away. I tried to do without it, but would get worse and the doctor would give it to me again.

For nearly ten years this was the way I suffered, and finally I had what the doctor called the last attack, and he could do nothing for me. He called another physician, who said very much the same thing and tried to give me relief by injecting the drug into my arm, which became badly swollen. One afternoon my husband was sitting beside me and it seemed as though I could not live much longer. I was thinking about leaving my two little ones, when the thought came to me, Why not try Christian Science—it has helped others, and why not me? I asked for help in Christian Science and my husband at once discharged the doctor and went for a Christian Science practitioner. She came, and I soon experienced a sweet peace and quietness; I felt changed. I asked for a drink, which she gave to me. Until this time I had not been allowed a drop of water or anything to eat for days. In a few minutes I was able to eat freely, and without any bad effect. I was completely healed of the morphine habit in three treatments. It was blotted out, and seems like a dream. I then began to gain, although I had a long, hard struggle; but through a kind, loving God, I was restored to my family.

My healing has brought the whole family into Christian Science. As my thoughts go back over those years, my heart is filled with love and thankfulness to God for giving us, through Mrs. Eddy, this wonderful truth which heals all our diseases.—Mrs. Jessie Davison, Watertown, S. D.
