Out of the depths of my heart, I wish to relate my case of healing. On the 16th of March, 1903, I was told, after a thorough examination under the influence of chloroform, that I could not live without a serious operation. One of the surgeons who had examined me informed me that it would be necessary for me to be under the influence of anæsthetics so long that they hardly thought I would live through an operation; but I was suffering such severe pain that they believed it best for me to try that one chance, as it was impossible to endure such agony, and I would have only a short time to live anyhow.
At this stage my brother advised me to try Christian Science, for, although he had no faith in it himself, he had heard of some wonderful cases of healing. I decided to try it, and a practitioner was sent for. I was healed in a few treatments, and the doctors declared it was a miracle. They could not understand my recovery. People whom I had never met came to see me, having heard so much about my case. My pain left me entirely after a few treatments, but I did not regain my strength immediately, this required several months. I had been sick two years, and previous to my having Christian Science treatment I had not slept without opiates for six weeks. To-day I am in perfect health and can sleep like a child. Since my healing I have never had any physical troubles to overcome, and it seems that my body has been completely transformed. Within five or six months after my recovery I found myself guiding others to God and Christian Science.
I am very grateful to God, whom I have learned to know as Life, and to Mrs. Eddy, whose teaching has enabled me to understand the Bible and to pray in the right way for health and happiness.—Mary Thorsen, Chicago, Ill.
