During our Sunday morning service, a short time ago,...

During our Sunday morning service, a short time ago, our little band had a beautiful proof of God's presence and tender care, which has been a great joy and blessing to us. During the reading of the Lesson-Sermon, one of our number—an elderly lady (whose testimony follows this)—suddenly became unconscious. There were no symptoms of faintness or suffering, but a sudden collapse, accompanied by the appearance of death. Some even declared she was dead. As soon as she could be laid down we bowed our heads in silent prayer and the room became very still. We realized that God, divine Love, was present with us, and that He is Life,—eternal, unchanging,—and that nothing could separate us from Him. A sense of deep peace came to all of us. I do not know how long the time really was, but it seemed short, not more than ten or fifteen minutes, before consciousness was restored, and with it, as our friend says, such a sense of peace and rest as she had never known. Her appearance became entirely natural, and we resumed our Lesson and finished the service as usual.

It seemed as if the words we read and sang had a deeper meaning than ever before, and we went to our homes with hearts full of thankfulness to God, the giver of all good, and to His faithful servant, our beloved Leader, who has taught us how to look to God with confidence at all times. This experience has lifted us all a little farther out of material belief, and it has been a wonderful help to some, especially the lady who was restored so quickly. She seems to have a much clearer understanding of spiritual things, to be stronger physically, and much happier and cheerier than before.—Mrs. Sarah G. Phillips, Fenton, Mich.
