Led by a desire to express my gratitude for all that Christian Science has done for me, I give my testimony. As a result of an operation, and preceding troubles, about eleven years ago I was afflicted with heart trouble and suffered much. At one time I had to undergo a very painful operation, but on account of my condition the physician performed it without giving me anesthetics. In November, 1904, I had a child treated in Christian Science, and thereby came in contact with a practitioner, who explained to me its glorious teaching.
During the first few months after I came into Christian Science my trouble seemed to have entirely disappeared without treatment, and the rheumatic pain likewise. Through yielding to error, the heart trouble came up again, in March, 1905, and seemed worse than before. I was, however, treated in Christian Science and felt the effect immediately. Amidst all the anxiety there came a feeling of rest and peace, and although I seemed at first unable to think aright, within six weeks I was perfectly healed. I was never so well as I have been since this experience.
I am very happy over my freedom from the physical suffering of many years' standing, but much more happy am I over other things which Christian Science has brought to me. When I was but a little child I had a great longing for God and prayed to Him fervently. This seeking and longing never ceased, although I found no satisfaction in my religion and seemed to receive no answer to my prayers. To-day I understand the statement: "Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss," with many other Bible passages which were formerly clouded. I now know that we cannot reap good where we have not sown it. I used to be most unhappy; life seemed to have nothing but trouble for me; I cried on the slightest provocation, and at times I could not listen to music without bursting into tears. This was all changed at once through Christian Science.
