In June, 1889, I was taken seriously ill and one of the leading physicians was called in. The case dragged along until about the middle of July, when he took me to Minneapolis, Minn. While there I went through a medical examination and was told that my physician had given me the right medicine. During this time and up to the middle of August I had been coughing a great deal. I then changed physicians, but I got worse every day until the latter part of November, when the physician told me that he could not do anything more for me, and that my only chance would be to go to Colorado or Georgia. My wife then decided to take me to Colorado Springs, and we arrived there on the 1st of December. One of the leading physicians ther gave me a thorough examination and diagnosed my case as severe lung trouble, and said that if I gained any I could never live away from Colorado. I kept getting worse every day, until I could not even go to the physician's office. He then told my wife that he could do nothing more for me excepting to give me medicine which would ease the pain.
During all this time my wife wanted me to try Christian Science, but I was not ready for it until one day my wife sprained her ankle while coming down stairs. This sprain was healed with one Science treatment, and this case of healing opened my eyes. I thought if my wife could be healed so quickly, why should I not try it myself? On the 1st of January, 1900, I threw away what medicine I had and called in the practitioner who had helped my wife. He treated me about three weeks and I decided to return home. When we arrived I had the practitioner treat me who had taken my wife's case two years before this. Soon after my return home I stated a confectionery store, doing most of the work myself, and afterwards I became deputy sheriff of this county. At present I am working in the Government employ as money-order clerk in the Watertown post-office.
To-day I am a living monument of the health and strength due to God's protecting arm, and to Christian Science as taught us by our never-tiring and patient Leader. The study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, has proven to me and to my family God's ever-presence in time of distress, and I give thanks to God and to our Leader for this enlightenment.
