I have great reason for gratitude for the healing power...
I have great reason for gratitude for the healing power of God as demonstrated through Christian Science. In October, 1905, while at work on a new building, I stepped on the temporary covering of a stairway opening in the floor, which had been unsafely placed and gave way instantly, letting me drop feet first to the basement floor below, striking my head with great force on the timber surrounding the opening, and rendering me unconscious. I was taken upstairs by my fellow-workmen, one of whom went for a doctor, who took me home, stitched up the cut in the scalp, and pronounced the verdict that I would not live till the next morning, as the injuries were very severe. A Christian Science practitioner was then telephoned to and absent treatment given at once. Before the doctor left the house there was a noticeable change in my condition, so that he qualified his former statement by saying that if I did live, I would always remain in the semiconscious condition in which I then was. The Scientist came to see me that evening, and also the four following days; I continued to improve, and the rest of the work was done absently. At the end of two weeks I was able to go to her house, and in six weeks I was again at work on the building where I had been hurt, and could have worked sooner if the materials had been ready.
A doctor, an old friend, who saw me ten days after my fall, said that in his opinion I would be unable to work for a year; but I was healed, and thanks be to God for His healing power, and to Mrs. Eddy, His faithful servant, to whom it was revealed and through whom it has been given to the world.
