It is with deep gratitude to God that I testify to what...
It is with deep gratitude to God that I testify to what Christian Science has done for me. A little over three years ago I was laid up with what the doctors called an abnormal growth, affecting the spine and causing paralysis. I was as helpless as a child. I tried every material remedy that I could procure, all to no purpose. I continued to get worse and the doctors told me I would never be able to work again. Just about this time, in the darkest hour, and when in despair, I heard about Christian Science. Truly it was the hour that precedes the dawn, for at once the light began to shine into my consciousness; I began to improve, and in one month I was entirely healed. I went to work after one month's treatment, and I may say here that I had positive proof that the cure was a radical one, for my work required the running up and down five flights of stairs for ten hours a day. Prior to this, for a whole year, I could not go up one flight without great difficulty.
I am very grateful for the physical help I have received. I realize that God has healed me and that I owe my life to Christian Science. I am also deeply thankful for what this truth has done to change my habits, which were not of the best, and to reform my character. I was addicted to strong drink, loved to gamble and was for years a continual trouble to my family; but now, thank God, I have been healed of the desire to drink and to live dishonestly. Christian Science has revealed to me a God of love, "who healeth all thy diseases," and has given me a practical, every-day religion that teaches me how to live aright.
I wish to express my thanks to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for all she has done and is still doing for myself and for the world at large.
