In November, 1897, I was employed as a compositor on a weekly newspaper in a little town in South Dakota, when I was taken critically ill and had to be sent to my home. This was the second time that I had to quit my work and go home, and I had a feeling that I was going home to die.

The two winters previous I had tried everything possible for my relief, employing three different physicians during this time. The disease was a very severe bowel trouble. When I returned home I was much worse and for nine weeks my physician tried in every way to help me, but gradually I sank until I became helpless. A consultation of doctors was held, and one of them told my father that they did not think I would live an hour.

A friend then asked us to try Christian Science, and I reached out for this last straw. After the first treatment my parents could see a change, but I did not realize it until about the third day, when the "peace which passeth all understanding" came over me and I rested,—something that I had not done for nine long weary weeks. The practitioner told my parents to give me anything I wished to eat, and I ate with a relish the things which the physicians had condemned. About a week afterwards I rose from my bed, dressed, and went for a ride. I am to-day strong and doing all of my own work for a family which includes two small children. I thank God for sending to us in this age our grand and noble Leader, Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, to lighten our burdens and to lift us out of suffering. I am to-day ready to testify to God's goodness to mankind and to the great benefits received through the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."
