It is seven years since I was healed in Christian Science, and it may help some other sufferer to hear that very many afflictions have been overcome for me by the truth. I had been a semi-invalid for about seventeen years, being treated by one doctor after another; using every material remedy I could hear of, and growing worse all the time. After exhausting the skill of several doctors, I was told that there was an abnormal growth, and an operation was suggested, which I greatly dreaded. After some electrical treatment I grew worse, and could not be moved without intense suffering. The doctor could do nothing but give me morphine tablets. A serious condition set in, which baffled the doctor, and he said he could do no more; but contrary to his expectations I lived through it.

All through my sickness a lady who lived near us frequently called to see me, and talked of Christian Science. I could not grasp the meaning of what she said, but often I would think to myself, What if there should be truth in what she has told me of this healing? On the day when the doctors doomed me to the grave, I said to my daughter, who was bewailing my fate, Why not try this new way of healing that our neighbor has been telling us about? My daughter then sought an interview with a practitioner, who told her that all things are possible with God. She came to see me, and after a few moments I grasped the meaning of what she said. I could have shouted for joy! I knew I was going to live. When she asked that the medicine be taken from the room, I felt no fear at seeing my cherished gods banished from my presence. She gave me treatment and I rested that night. O glorious thought, I was going to live! I felt no doubt of it and was happy. In about twenty-four hours after the first treatment, I was better, I felt stronger. I felt "the divine energy of Spirit, bringing us [me] into newness of life" (Science and Health, p. 249). The tenth day after I began treatment I did some baking, and after four weeks' treatment I did what would be called hard work. In these seven years I have never taken any medicine, internally or externally. Truth is my physician. Since I was first healed many physical troubles have come up, but they all vanished into their native nothingness when the searchlight of Truth was thrown upon them. The small pittance which the Scientist charged for the four weeks' treatment was nothing to be compared to the hundred of dollars given for doctors and medicine.

For all these blessings I thank my heavenly Father more than I am capable of expressing. My heart goes out in tender gratitude to our dear Leader for what this knowledge has done for me, the suffering from which it has saved me.—Mrs. Joanna Childs, Wichita, Kan.
