I am very glad to have the opportunity to tell of my healing...
I am very glad to have the opportunity to tell of my healing through the truth. About nine years ago I was taken very ill, though for a year or more life had been a burden. Our family physician said that I had an internal growth which must be operated upon, and he insisted that I should be taken to a hospital for this purpose. Another physician was called for consultation, who agreed with the first as to the correctness of his diagnosis, and said the sooner the operation could be performed the better. Arrangements were made to take me to Baltimore, to the city hospital. I had to be carried to the depot on a stretcher, as I was not able to sit up. There was a lady traveling at the same time who claimed to have been healed by Christian Science. She told me something about it and advised that I take Christian Science treatment; but not knowing anything about it, I paid very little attention to what she said. I told her that as all the arrangements had been made for me at the hospital, I would have to go there.
She left her address with my husband and said if we did decide to take Christian Science treatment that she would gladly assist him in finding a practitioner. After going to the hospital the head physician made an examination, consulted with the one who had accompanied us from home, and said than an operation would be of no permanent benefit to me, even if I were able to stand it. Then our physician said, "I do not know anything else you can do, unless it be to try Christian Science." My husband went to see a practitioner, who took the case and began treatment on Tuesday evening. I had been moved to a hotel near by, and she came to see me twice a day. The first time she came she brought some Christian Science literature for me to read. By Thursday I had improved so that I could walk. My husband had to leave for home, and I asked the practitioner if she thought I was able to go with him. She said yes, and asked me to get a copy of the text-book, that I might learn from it how to keep well. We arrived home Friday evening, and not being expected there was no one to meet us; so we walked home, a distance of several blocks. It was a great surprise to all our people and friends, for there was no one that expected me back alive. In three weeks I was perfectly well and have been ever since.
When we began the perusal of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," we found it all that was claimed for it. During more than eight years we have found its spiritual interpretation of the Bible to be sufficient to meet our every need, in sickness as well as health. Of the former we have had but very little since we learned of Christian Science. I am very grateful to God for this blessed healing and saving truth, and to Mrs. Eddy, our dear Leader, for revealing it to us.
