It was in 1892 that I first heard of Christian Science
It was in 1892 that I first heard of Christian Science. I had dedicated my life to God according to the orthodox views, and spent much time in studying the Bible. A lady who was at this time stopping in the same house with me, on discovering that I was interested in the Bible, began to talk to me about Christian Science, of which I had never even heard the name. She gave me a vivid picture of the promised land, and of what God is ready and willing to do if we trust Him absolutely, and I drank it all in like a thirsty child. It seemed so perfectly natural and right that God should give us only good. I followed the subject up, and I gladly and gratefully testify, after almost three years' and I gladly and gratefully testify, after almost three years' study and work, that many, many times more than what was promised has been fulfilled.
I had been bound to the orthodox church by every tie, and was a Sunday School teacher, but when the truth came to me, as revealed in Christian Science, I knew it was no longer possible for me to believe or teach that God allowed evil to exist; so step by step, in God's strength, I was able to make daily progress, and though it seemed dark before hand, as I advanced only harmony was expressed. At the first Wednesday evening meeting I attended in Belfast I was healed of indigestion, and my fear of it was completely destroyed. I have proved for myself and others that Christian Science is the truth, and that it enables us to worship and obey God in all the ways that our Master, Christ Jesus, commanded.—to preach the gospel and heal the sick. I have had a glimpse of man as God made him, which can never be effaced. It was only after I became a member of The Mother Church that I realized what a great privilege had been granted to me, and I gladly and gratefully accept the present opportunity to prove my love and gratitude to this Church for all the blessings that flow to me from it, by helping those who are doing the grand work of erecting the new building.
I have no words in which to express my gratitude and love to God for all these blessings, and to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for her life and work, which are blessing not only us but the whole world. I am trying through obedience to express a little of what I feel.
