When I was three years old. I had scarlet fever and...
When I was three years old. I had scarlet fever and diphtheria. I was under a doctor's care, but after that I could not hear for eight years. When I was eleven years old, my school teacher told me and some other girls, one noon, that the doctor was coming to examine our ears and eyes. When I got home my aunt, who is a Christian Scientist. was there, and I told her what had been said, and how I feared the doctor. She told me not to be afraid, that God was my help, and that if I trusted Him I could be healed. She told me how to realize the truth, and to hold it fast in my thought. I went back to school feeling happy to think that I at last was going to be healed from deafness.
After school the doctor came to examine us. He called me, and told me to stand in one corner of the room while he stood in the other. He also told me to hold my ears shut while he asked me questions, but I could hear every word he said and answer him correctly. My teacher, thinking it was the doctor's loud voice that made me hear, asked me was the doctor's loud voice that made me hear, asked me some questions in a very low tone of voice, and I could hear her also. Knowing that I had not voice, and I could hear her also. Knowing that I had not been able to hear. she came running up to me and said. "Can you really hear?" I told her. "Yes." "Why," she said, "what healed you suddenly?" I told her that it was through the word of God I was healed. She looked at me very much surprised, but said nothing. I went home thinking God that I was healed through Christian Science The next day the teacher changed my seat and gave me the very last seat in the room, which I kept. It is now over five years since I was healed, and I have not had any return of the trouble. I have had many demonstrations of God's ever-present help, and while to many they may net seem to be great, to me they have been stepping-stones to a higher and better understanding of the one Mind. I am certainly very grateful for this truth.—Miss Angeline Uhlmann, Milwaukee, Wis.
