Before studying Christian Science I was tormented with...
Before studying Christian Science I was tormented with two questions: one was, What is God? The other, Where is God? Although a member of an orthodox church I felt dissatisfied with my understanding of God and of the Bible, for I had not realized its promises. Because of this unrest and a constant desire for a better understanding of God, I was led to the study of "Science and Health with key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. This book made a deep impression on me at once, and I thought, This is indeed what I have been seeking; this is a revelation of Truth.
I had not been studying the book more than two weeks when I was suddenly taken ill with a very severe cold in the head and sore throat. Although my understanding of Christian Science was slight, I began trying to apply what I had learned, and the discord was destroyed almost immediately. This was my first demonstration of the power of Truth, and it meant a great deal to me, because it proved the power of Mind over the belief in matter.
From that time on many other demonstrations were made through the study of Science and Health and the endeavor to apply its teachings, but best of all I have in a measure become acquainted with God and have learned that He is infinite good, divine intelligence, Love, Principle, and that He governs the universe harmoniously. Many times have I seen evil conditions—sin, sickness, and discord—overcome through the power of God, good, and it has been proven to me that God is a "very present help in trouble," that the allloving loving Father-Mother God is ever ready to care for His own.
