Twelve years ago I was obliged to undergo five surgical operations for a severe and aggravated case of fistula, causing me intense pain and loss of much time from business. At the time I was told that the trouble would probably return, for it was hereditary. True to the man-made law, the difficulty returned one year ago, and, after bearing the suffering as long as I could, I concluded my only relief was to be found in the hospital. However, in my extremity, having little faith in materia medica, my thought was directed to Christian Science, and I decided to give it a test, resolving that if I were healed in a reasonable length of time, I would accpet the healing as a voice from God and endeavor to be led by the result.
How well I remember the struggle I had with error before I went for a treatment; in fact, I went by the building several times. Finally, realizing that I was not following out my resolve, and not giving God the opportunity to prove His love, I turned about and went in to what proved to be a haven of rest; for no sooner did I breathe the atmosphere of the Christian Science Reading Room than I felt better.
My prayer, after meeting my practitioner, was, "O God, I desire to be led by this truth; heal me, and I will try to prove my gratitude, and willingly seek to do Thy will."
