The sense of love and joy that came to me as I caught the first ray of light in Christian Science will never be forgotten. It came while reading an old copy of The Christian Science Journal, and was from an article written by our loved Leader, Mrs. Eddy. It can now be found in "Miscellaneous Writings" under the heading of "Mental Practice," page 219.
I was healed in two treatments of dyspepsia of many years' standing, but this was only a beginning in my case; there was a greater work to be done for me, which required much love and patience on the practitioner's part. I seemed to have so much fear of a return of the dreaded dyspepsia that other ailments were in part forgotten for the time. I was suffering from a complication of dyspepsia, consumption, hip disease, and headaches. I began to eat anything I wanted from the first, and was waiting for nature to help me in my more grievous troubles. We had employed many doctors, and as many different treatments had been taken. Each time I had been told that if the stomach trouble could be overcome nature would build me up in my other troubles.
I finally got tired waiting for nature, and called for help to overcome a chronic condition of hip disease. I had hardly expected to get entirely rid of this, as the trouble began internally and was caused by jumping from the front of a buggy and holding a fractious horse by the bit. The horse lifted me up from the ground three times, and in my excitement I did not realize how badly I was hurt, until a disease of the hip developed, and twelve years of great suffering followed.
