Letters to our Leader
Manchester, Eng., April 19, 1904.
Beloved Leader:—We, the undersigned, Building Committee of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Manchester, England,—your loving child and grandchildren (student and students' students) are gathered together on the eve of opening our new church edifice to express the gratitude and love we feel towards you, our dear Teacher and Guide, for having made such a demonstration possible to us.
We were constrained to take steps to build a church because, Christian Science being so little known here, it was found impossible to procure suitable premises in which to hold services. Therefore, although the oldest of us, with the exception of our Readers, had only known of Christian Science a year and a half, we commenced our search for a site on which to build.
