In the year 1888 I was healed of severe spinal trouble and also a complication of other diseases, through the understanding of God as revealed in Christian Science. I had previously been confined to the bed for eight months, six months of this time in a doctor's house in New York City, where I was then receiving treatment. It was not thought wise for me to remain there during the hot weather, so I was taken home with a nurse to wait until cooler weather, and return in the fall. Here let me say that my doctor was kind and did all in his power to relieve me. Many were the nights that I kept him, the nurse, and my dear husband working to relieve me of my suffering.

My sister and a friend begged of me to try Christian Science while I was at home, and because of their importunity I promised to do so. The keeping of that promise saved me. Just two weeks before I was to return, a Scientist came and commenced treatment. Almost immediately I began to have strength where before I had none, and on the fourth day a demonstration was made which medicine had failed to accomplish, and joy and faith came with it. A large quantity of medicine and bottles were destroyed and I began to look to God for help in every time of need. My path was not strewn with roses, but I held on to Truth. A Scientist was with me three weeks; then I had absent treatment, three months in all, before I considered myself well.

When I began to go out my friends did not know me. Then I began to tell what had caused this marvelous change, but instead of believeing and wanting this truth, they scorned it. Many times I have been reminded of Jesus' saying, "Neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead." It was a disappointment and sorrown not to have them believe, but God is our strength and the source of our courage, and He has said that "the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea," therefore we know that some day all will know God aright, and that He is our Life. For the past fourteen years no medicines have been used either by my husband or myself.
