I have written two or three testimonies to the benefit...
I have written two or three testimonies to the benefit I have received from Christian Science treatment, but did not send them, as I thought my demonstration was not complete, and that I should wait until it was. Of late, however, I have realized how helpful it has been to me to read the testimonies of just such cases as mine.
I had been an invalid for two years, with so many discordant conditions, stomach, liver, and bowel troubles, also displaced organs which a severe surgical operation had failed to replace. Besides these I had an abscess in the inner ear, supposed to be inherited, and a great deal of pain if I went without cotton in both ears, and I was compelled to wear a truss for floating kidney.
For nine months I was unable to lie down to sleep but was compelled to sit upright on account of nervous sensations in my spine and head. If I fell asleep and slipped off the pillow, I would be immediately awakened by terrible sensations that ran up my spine. I dieted very rigidly for twenty-two months, and lost over sixty pounds in weight in less than a year. I had the attention of four very good physicians during that time, but derived very little benefit therefrom.
Finally, when material means seemed exhausted, my prayers for help were answered, and divine Love led me to Christian Science. Although I went at my husband's solicitation it was with reluctance, being opposed to Christian Science through ignorance. I was healed at the first treatment of the persistent bowel trouble from which I suffered. I soon discarded my truss, took the cotton out of my ears, and ate what I wished. I was treated for two weeks, and then purchased Science and Health, studied it, and in two months had gained thirty pounds and could walk two or three miles daily. Best of all, I could sleep.
While some of the ailments were slow in yielding and error still tries to assert itself at times, I realize I have been wonderfully benefited.
I now weigh one hundred and forty-three pounds, am the picture of health, and can stand a great deal of exertion, where less than four years ago I weighed less than ninety pounds and in the eyes of many of my friends was doomed to death.
I believe I can truthfully say I do not regret the painful and weary path that led me to this haven of rest, Christian Science. There are no problems in my life to which I do not apply its teachings. Worry, impatience, control of temper, and business interests, as well as disease, have all yielded to the power of Truth.
I have even been able through my slight understanding to heal our animals. Our pet horse was healed of an ugly growth on his neck, and one of our fine Durham cows of an illness which our man said would result in death.
If I should attempt to tell of all the blessings which Christian Science has brought to me, I would take up more space than I could expect to be given, but I wish to add my tribute of gratitude to the Giver of all good, who through Mrs. Eddy has revealed to us the truth of Christian Science. I also wish to thank the contributors to our periodicals for their helpful words and articles.
