Christian Science is the New Commandment
We are surprised to hear persons ignorant of Christian Science ask if we believe in the Christ. Of course we do, and would have no right to use the name Christian if we did not. More than this, we believe our religion is the same understanding of God that was applied by Christ Jesus in his work among men. Jesus said, "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." All of these signs follow the work of those who understand and practise the rules of Christian Science, which proves our claim to be true.
Christian Science is the new commandment Jesus gave,—"That ye love one another,"—because all our work is done through love; and we are not true followers of the Christ if we bear resentment and malice. Our Science teaches us how to regard discord and see the true harmony that comes from God.
If you had a friend who had been a daily companion for three years and the time came when you were surrounded by enemies clamoring for your death, if in that hour of peril this friend should swear he had never known you, could you ever forgive his cowardice? Jesus did, and so can you when you come to an understanding of the nature of evil as revealed in the Christ Science, and there is none other religion, science, or name under heaven given among men whereby you can forgive and love your enemies.
