The Lectures

First Church of Christ, Scientist, was filled and overflowing with people yesterday afternoon [September 14] to hear the lecture of Judge Septimus J. Hanna on the subject, Christian Science. It was a splendid audience and Judge Hanna was given the closest attention throughout his discourse. Judge Barber presided at the meeting and he was introduced by Mr. Arthur E. Jennings, First Reader of the local church. Judge Barber said in part :—

My Friends, Ladies, and Gentlemen:—I assume it a great honor to take a part in this meeting. Since closing court, I have been around the country a little, making a trip of three or four weeks, and I have noticed two things in particular. I found everywhere I went—in the East, Washington, Boston, New York, and in fact all the large cities—I found all public churches or a very great many of them closed for vacation.

The second thing I noticed was the growth of the Christian Science churches. I was very deeply impressed with their church buildings in all the large cities. I saw the Mother Church, the great Christian Science Church in Boston, and everywhere I went I saw the growth and advancement of this cause.
