Paying the Tithes

"Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of Hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it."

This "commandment with promise," by the word of the prophet Malachi, like all God's promises and blessings, is characterized by its abundant fulness. But what can we bring into the storehouse of God, that can be of any value to Him? Can we add aught to the riches of Him who already has all things? "The silver and the gold" are His, "The cattle on a thousand hills." Were things like these needed in the least by Him, the Word of His power could instantly speak into existence more than worlds could contain.

A sweet old anthem, though somewhat colored by the old thought—expresses very fully, I think, the true concept :—
