Among the Churches

Twenty-four members of the Mother Church met August 6, and organized as First Church of Christ, Scientist, of Needham.

September 2 the Masons, in most impressive manner, laid the corner-stone for what is to be our beautiful Town Hall. It was announced on that occasion that in the corner-stone were placed many documents relative to the religious and secular life of the town. These were itemized and one from First Church of Christ, Scientist, was included. In view of the progress Christian Science has made during the past thirty-six years, can we not predict that these papers, when examined in future years, will be among the most interesting to a majority of our people?

In 1897 a lady here was wonderfully healed through Christian Science, and seeing at once that "when one is convinced that there is a religion that teaches that God heals the sick, he can never be satisfied with a religion that teaches that God used to heal," this lady started Christian Science services in her home. We grew slowly, and in 1901 we engaged Masonic Hall, the home having proved too small for the forty to fifty people who came to the Sunday service. Here we now meet, and extend a cordial welcome to all.
