Christian Science not Superstition

Dayton (O.) Press

To the Editor.

When Christian Science is better comprehended (and it can only be understood aright in proportion as its precepts are lived) it will be found entirely free from any ingredient of superstition. We agree with you that there is a radical difference between the application of material remedies and Christian Science treatment. However, on this ground it should not be classed as superstitious. Jesus proved in his own life that the best preventive as well as the best remedy is an understanding of the divine Mind, and the laws of God governing man.

Christian Scientists do not "lay on hands," or "touch with the hands" in their ministrations to the sick, but through an understanding of God as governing His children they are able to alleviate suffering and prevent disease. The fact that the sick are healed by the use of spiritual means, or through prayer as understood in Christian Science, is not only verified by hundreds of thousands of beneficiaries, but in many cases is attested by medical practitioners, who rejoice that some humane means have been found that brought relief from suffering after the material remedies they administered had failed.
