The Hampton Negro Conference has just closed its annual session. The conference covered a wide range of subjects, including general statistics, vital and sanitary problems, domestic science, the improvement of Negro farms, business and labor, religion and ethics, cooperation necessary to race unity, education and the condition of the colored woman. The conference closed by adopting without a dissenting voice the resolutions presented, which declare the need of kindergarten schools and of the teaching of agriculture and manual training in the courses of education for all: of religious training in all the schools, etc.

On July I a law went into effect in the State of South Carolina prohibiting the sale, ownership or use within the State of the pocket pistol. It is provided that no firearm weighing less than three pounds or measuring less than twenty inches in length shall be used.

The State Department at Washington has decided to press toward completion the Colombian treaty looking to the acquisition of right of way of the isthmian canal. It is proposed to have the treaty ready to be submitted to the Senate as soon as it convenes in December.
