The Right Practice

The greatest wisdom is shown in foreseeing and forestalling evil, and thus avoiding threatened dangers; but the consciousness that does this is entirely distinct from the mental condition which is forever fearful for the future, forever crossing bridges that have not been built.

The wisdom which prevents the manifestation of evil is the divine reflection, and is seen in the clear understanding which uncovers the works of the evil one, only to destroy them; which sees the powerlessness of evil; which knows that the belief in the reality of evil is all there is to it, and that the total destruction of this present belief is the sure safeguard against evil manifestations in the future. Wisdom, however, is not expressed in the thought that tremblingly asks What can I do if this comes to pass? or, What shall I do if that should happen? Such inquiries pre-suppose the possibility and even the probability of evil manifestations, and thereby invite them. To indulge in speculation of this nature about ourselves, or to put the burden of such thought upon others, is a type of malpractice. M.
