Humility

James says, "The Lord resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble." Meekness and humility go hand in hand. Jesus said, "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are the meek. for they shall inherit the earth." As we strive to know God better, He reveals to us the folly of pride; the utter nonsense of boasting.

Should we be rash enough to indulge in this form of error, we shall soon find that we must prove that our boasting is not vain, else that other Scripture becomes applicable to us: "Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall."

We have examples of what constitutes true humility in the lives of Moses, and the Master. Among its prominent characteristics we find, fidelity, obedience, patience, justice, truthfulness, self-control, peace, constancy, firmness, moral courage; all these exercised in or toward the Infinite, the unseen, ever-present God, the Power outside of self; a complete surrender of the human will to the divine.
