Not long since it was necessary for me to have some...

Not long since it was necessary for me to have some dental work done, and as my teeth had always been termed over-senstive, the old dread of pain came up to be destroyed, and it was destroyed through the small understanding of Christian Science which is my greatest possession.

On entering the dentist's office, the thought that "perfect love casteth out fear" came to me, and I held steadfastly to this truth, and realized the absence of pain in Love, while the dentist performed a long and difficult operation without any inconvenience to me.

Each time he stopped to get new instruments, I read a few lines in Science and Health, and when he finally would go no farther because of the lack of sensitiveness (fearing that the tooth was beyond saving), and with a very puzzled look remarked, "I don't understand this, your tooth is not a bit sensitive," he was told that the Truth of Christian Science was the remedy used to destroy pain. He looked astonished and said, "Oh!" Then he seemed to subject me to the severest tests, probing around the nerve, and using hot and cold air, trying to make me feel pain in matter. But Truth was the victor, and the work proceeded after he had been assured that I fully intended to have the tooth crowned. He questioned me closely, fearing that an abscess might form at the root which had first to be filled.
