In proof of the effectiveness of the truths of Christian Science...
In proof of the effectiveness of the truths of Christian Science I would like to tell of the case of an old friend of mine now living in Cincinnati.
After a long and honorable career he found himself embarrassed, and unable to meet his obligations, and came to Boston to arrange a settlement with his creditors.
The conditions seemed to make it necessary for him to give up his business, as his entire capital was gone, and greatly discouraged he started for his home in Cincinnati. Being friendly to him, I wanted to cheer him up, if possible, and being somewhat interested in Christian Science myself at the time, I urged him to get a copy of Science and Health and take it with him to read on the train going home. I thought it would take his mind off his business troubles and be some comfort to him. Though a deacon in his orthodox church in Cincinnati, he bought the book and read it on the train all day, and became so much impressed with its truths that he stopped off at Dayton, O., to see his brother, who was a confirmed drunkard, with his will-power all gone.
