In its church news the Congregationalist gives the following: "Churches have often been criticised for adopting a creed which contains articles to be accepted intellectually, but which do not require one to do anything for the benefit of one's fellow-men. The officers of the First Church, Evanston, Ill., Rev. W. E. Barton, D.D., pastor, dissatisfied with the present covenant, which deals chiefly with speculative matters of belief, have decided to present to the church a new covenant dealing with works or the conduct of life.

The Universalist Leader says: "The Christian disciple,—the man with brotherly love in his heart,—thinketh no evil; is not suspecting, or carping, or cynical. Such a person does not easily surrender faith in a friend, and yields to no current of censure or opprobrium against whomsoever directed; expresses disapprobation of wrong-doing, to be sure, yet with a sincere desire that the offender against God and man may be renewed in the temper of his mind and become established in wisdom and virtue."

"The Man Who Grumbles About His Work" is the title of an article in the Sunday School Times, which closes with the following question and its answer: "Should not one try to count for just as much as possible in the world? Undoubtedly; but grumbling never helps toward either usefulness or happiness. It never brings one either a friend or an opportunity. Fill the present place. Overflow it. Then there will be larger places empty and waiting for you. Trust God to guide you to the right one."
