Among the Churches

"Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." It is with grateful hearts that the Christian Scientists in Evanston are recognizing that obedience to the teachings of divine Science makes the fruition of this mighty injunction of our Master possible now. First Church of Christ, Scientist, was organized in our city six years ago, and, year by year, the number has increased who desire to "press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." The awakening this year in our midst to a higher significance of Christianity has inspired us with a purer thought of love which has established a truer sense of brotherhood, and surely are we striving for the prize and to realize that "Love, the divine Principle, is the Father and Mother of the universe, including man" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker G. Eddy, p. 152).

Within the past few months an adjoining room was opened into the hall where our services are held, and it was soon filled with new faces. As the bird spreading its wings for broader and more joyous flight seeks the vast space above, so have we sought the freedom and peace of enlarged boundaries that the Truth, as revealed in Christian Science, may unfold its glorious beauties to more of God's "little ones."

The church has purchased the handsome property mentioned in the Sentinel some weeks ago, and the work has begun of remodeling the spacious old house which will be used as the temporary place for worship. The auditorium will have a seating capacity of five hundred, and under the supervision of the architect the building will have a quaint and picturesque appearance in the setting of beautiful trees that encircle the lot.
