Jewels

Jewels have ever been types of beauty and wealth. In the Old Testament we read of the grandeur of Solomon's temple with its jeweled splendor, and in Revelation is described the glory of the New Jerusalem typified by streets of gold and foundations "garnished with all manner of precious stones."

In "Miscellaneous Writings," on page 202 our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, speaks of the "jewels of character,—temperance, virtue, and truth."

Jewels are not found lying in our pathway or growing on trees ready to be picked, but each one represents much labor and care. The miner delves deep in the earth and brings out a piece of rock, embedded in which is the precious stone, and carefully he removes the valueless earth until the stone is freed from the useless matter; yet then it is not an object of beauty until it has been cut and polished to reflect the sun's rays.
