Physical and Moral Healing

Last winter, an attack of earache in a little friend of ours was instantly met by an understanding that God is Love. The child had screamed with pain till his face was swollen and very red. His mother and a relative were doing all that they could to relieve him with material applications. I heard him and ran in to see what was the matter. I asked permission, and took him to my room, and immediately he threw the medicine into the grate and stopped crying.

For hours the mother and cousin listened, thinking they would have to take him again, but heard no sound from him. Instead, he had his hair brushed and apron changed and was asleep in less than an hour, continuing to sleep till late in the evening.

Then came the problem, with others in the house, to account for his immediate relief, so finally it came to my ears that it was because the child was so much attached to me. This was expatiated upon at great length, and all at once came to be considered wonderful. He is a great favorite and does love me very much, but we know, as I told his mother, that human love had never before cured an earache.
