The Prayer of Faith

One of the positive proofs of the utter misconception of the teachings of Christian Science on the part of many of its critics, is the fact of their insistence that Christian Scientists do not believe in prayer and hence are a prayerless people. The direct opposite is true, for probably no class of religionists believe more earnestly in the power of prayer; strive more sincerely to gain an understanding of how to pray and what to pray for, and endeavor more faithfully to put it into daily, yea hourly, practice.

This misunderstanding may be accounted for possibly on the ground that such critics may not be able to conceive of prayer otherwise than as an audible expression in words.

Prayer is the means by which man communes with God and puts himself in harmony with his Maker. The form of prayer used in Christian Science Churches is that of silent communion with God, and that communion is only genuine and fruitful when the one who prays meets the conditions involved in that sentence, so wonderfully full of meaning and so vital to Christian character, namely, "Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors."
