The Lectures

The Hon. William G. Ewing of Chicago, Ill., spoke at the Lyceum Theatre under the auspices of First Church of Christ, Scientist, of Rochester, to a large, intelligent, and appreciative audience Monday evening, May 21. The subject was "Christian Science, the Religion of Jesus Christ."

The speaker was introduced by Attorney G. Frost Slocum, who spoke as follows:—

Ladies and Gentlemen:—The highest human attainment is the knowledge of truth. In the problem of attaining unto this knowledge, there are two factors, the one permanent, the other changeable. Truth is absolute, the same yesterday, to-day, and forever, eternally and unchangeably complete; but to human consciousness truth is constantly growing in proportion to the ever expanding capacity of the human mind for its completer recognition. Abstract truth is not truth for us, until we have discovered it, appropriated it, and applied it in our daily lives.
