Faithful Study of Science and Health

I Send the following experience in gratitude for what the Mother, through "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," has done for me and mine, and with the hope that it may help others to see what the honest, patient reading of this wonderful book will do, when prejudice and dogmatism are laid aside.

My father passed away in the spring of 1886; a beloved uncle from our home in 1887; and in May of 1888 our mother was taken from us under the most distressing circumstances. As a sister expressed it, the very foundations of the earth seemed to be taken out form under us.

In the depression which followed these accumulated sorrows, grief was so all-absorbing, that even through its operation the lives of other dear ones were endangered. Other friends were taken away and there seemed to be no end to our sorrows—"no balm in Gilead"—though we were a Presbyterian family, from parents to the youngest child, and trying to be Christians.
