Saved from Pain by Christian Science

Green Bay (Wis.) Advocate

John Everson , a young man who is employed in the Green Bay Theatre and who boards at the American House, believes he had, through the medium of Christian Science, a remarkable escape from serious injury or even pain following an accident.

Everson was walking across the stage Wednesday afternoon, carrying in his arms a large timber, when a hammer weighing three pounds, accidentally dropped by a workman in the rigging loft fifty feet above, struck him full on top of the head with tremendous force. A well-known Green Bay woman, who is a Christian Science healer, happened to be in the house and on the stage as a visitor. She saw the occurrence and instantly went to work to help the victim of the accident.

Everson was staggered by the blow, but retained his senses. He dropped the timber he was carrying and clapped both hands on his head. The hammer had inflicted a long gash and blood was streaming over his face, obstructing his vision. Mr. Johnston and others led him to a wash-basin, where the wound was washed with cold water. The Scientist remained at Everson's side. She said to him, "Never mind, young man. It won't hurt you. Don't put anything on it and the wound will heal up all right." Everson understood in a moment and took the Scientist's word that he was not hurt.
