Abiding

"Abide in me, and I in you." Christian Scientists attach a new meaning to the word "abide." It is indeed significant in the Truth. Abide, sojourn, stay with. Stay with God—Good. To be conscious only of ever-present good, "With whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning."

If we in thankfulness acknowledge His supremacy, His ever-presence, we need not fear. For the blessed promise is, "If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you;" and in Christian Science that sweet assurance is being continually verified.

The Bible command is "Bring into captivity every thought." Mrs. Eddy says, "Stand porter at the door of thought" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 391), which means being obedient, faithful, and vigilant; "Instant, in season, out of season" with the denial or error and the affirmation of Good. We cannot one moment declare the allness of God, and the next dishonor Him by acknowledging a power apart from God, and be honest in thought. This blessed practical Truth is indeed the seamless garment, for it means wholeness, holiness, in thought, word, and deed.
