Finding the perfect home

Originally appeared on spirituality.com

When my husband found a new job and our family had to move from our long-term small North German home in Hamburg to Bamberg, a small town in the south neither of us was familiar with, the transition seemed to take forever. Again and again, we looked through newspaper ads and visited innumerable flats, but none ever seemed to be right for us.

Sometimes the layout wasn’t suitable, or the flat was too small. There’d be no space for our child to play outside, or there was a busy road in front of the house. Landlords seemed unwelcoming to kids and weren’t very accommodating because we weren’t local people. It appeared as if the perfect home just didn’t exist.

The time to move came closer. We were worried, and finally I called a Christian Science practitioner, an individual who, through prayer, helps others to recognize God as a practical help in their lives.
