How Love dissolved a tantrum

Originally appeared on spirituality.com

I did lots of babysitting as a teenager, and later raised three children of my own. But I’d never met a child so totally out of control as my friend’s 2-year-old, Fraser.

My friend had asked me if I’d take care of Fraser for a few hours. I was happy to do it; I’d seen this little guy socially and in our Sunday School many times and had grown fond of him. When I arrived, he was napping peacefully. But when he woke and discovered his mommy was gone, he started to scream hysterically.

I immediately bent down to pick him up, to comfort and console him, but was taken aback when he began violently kicking, scratching and slugging me. He really seemed out of control, and I knew I needed to pray immediately.
