"What hast thou in the house?"—an endless supply of gratitude

Originally appeared on spirituality.com

I’ve been thinking a lot about Thanksgiving. This year, it may seem there’s not much to be grateful for. The list of worldwide tragedy is long and there are so many needs to be met. But being grateful can actually help us respond to those needs.

I’ve found that gratitude is most needed when there seems to be nothing to be grateful for. And being grateful is the best way to break up the clouds of despair.

Have you ever made a written gratitude list? I know it may sound strange, but writing down all those things you’re grateful for is very helpful. Sometimes it’s hard to get started, but being grateful for the smallest thing can get the list going. Giving gratitude by putting pen to paper inspires me.
