Choose life

A friend who lived hundreds of miles away phoned me and said, “I have a gun to my head and I’m going to kill myself.” Then he hung up.

I didn’t know how to reach any family members and was reluctant to call the police. I felt I was being called to do something—but what?

The words “choose life” came to me from a Bible verse which reads, in part, “I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live.”
