Making sense of Jesus' world
Just as many of us may leave a stage musical humming the show’s best tunes, I recently came out of an N.T. Wright lecture on Christianity in the world today with a mind vibrating with some of his best remarks:
• When God wants to change the world, He doesn’t send in the tanks. He sends in the meek, the mourners, those who are hungry and thirsty for God’s justice, the peacemakers, and so on.
• When Jesus healed people . . . it was clear . . . that this wasn’t just a foretaste of a future reality. This was reality itself. This was what it looked like when God was in charge.
