Trust in God’s plan

One day my husband came home and told me that he no longer had a job. I was gripped with fear. We were in a small town in Mississippi, a long way from our home state of Texas. Our children were in elementary school, and I was a stay-at-home mom. And just before this, we had practically emptied our savings account to meet an unexpected expense.

But I wasn’t helpless, and neither was my husband; we knew we could pray. We were accustomed to seeing the effects of prayer, and over the next couple of months, while my husband made phone calls to business contacts and sent out résumés, our full-time job became to pray and listen to God.

Little by little we overcame our fears, as we saw how much God loves His children and takes care of them, no matter what the material picture is. We began to trust that His plan was unfolding in the most perfect way for our family. As we gave up our fears about the future and let God govern, we came to see what the prophet said in II Chronicles: “Set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord with you” (20:17).
