Our ultimate career guide
Some years ago my husband, Joe, was working for the United States government in a position that had recently been created. He loved his work but became disturbed when government officials began checking installations in his department to see where they could eliminate some posts. Joe became afraid that he might lose his job.
At this point a friend, who was a Christian Science practitioner, stopped by our house to pick up some church literature. Joe took a moment to chat with her and shared his concerns about his job. In response, the practitioner said: “Remember, you are not working for a person or a company. You are working for God. So instead of expecting a decrease, expect an increase in opportunities.” She then quoted this sentence from Science and Health, twice inserting the word lack: “The soil of disease [or lack] is mortal mind, and you have an abundant or scanty crop of disease [or lack], according to the seedlings of fear” (p. 188).
You are not working for a person or a company. You are working for God.
