God’s day, your day

Some movies are memorable. Some lines from movies are even more memorable. You could probably name a few of those lines. I didn’t see Dirty Harry, but I’m sure aware of Clint Eastwood’s character Harry Callahan and Harry’s line, “Go ahead, make my day!”

Probably there are people who have a really aggressive or vengeful attitude toward someone and say or think, “Go ahead, make my day,” without even knowing where those words originated. I’ve thought about that phrase, maybe just because it has been popular, but I’ve directed it to God. And I really mean it! If He will go ahead and just make my day, I figure I’ve got a lot of good in store for the next 24 hours. But my motive has less to do with a Harry attitude and more to do with a Laura Lee Randall attitude.

She was the Christian Scientist who penned the words for the hymn “This is the day the Lord hath made; Be glad, give thanks, rejoice” (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 342). I’d recommend you think about Harry’s words, but with the Laura Lee motive. It might just bless the way your day develops. Especially if you’re willing to accept God’s day as His purpose unfolding divine good in your life.
