Dear Sentinel
I want to tell you about a time when I learned something in Sunday School and used it that very afternoon in my gymnastics competition.
In Sunday School we talked about how Eve was mesmerized by the snake to eat the fruit of good and evil. See Gen. 3:1–7 . We also learned about how God showed through Moses and others that God's man really has dominion over evil, as when Moses caught the snake by the tail and it turned into a rod, and when Moses stopped the leprosy. See Ex. 4:2–8 .
When I was doing my warm-up for the balance beam event that afternoon, I kept falling as I was doing my cartwheel. I started to think that I couldn't do it, but I thought not being mesmerized by wrong thoughts. Then when it came time to do my routine for the judge, I prayed more. I thought, "I have dominion over this beam—it's just a piece of matter." Just before my cartwheel I said to myself, "I can't fall out of God's arms." Guess what? I stuck it! It was a wonderful feeling, and I got a really good score. My all-around score at that meet was the best I've ever gotten.
