WORK FOUND THROUGH GOD'S GUIDANCE

Upon graduating from college with a major in business administration, I was one of the few who managed to find a position during the great Depression in the 1930s. The salary was sufficient to lead me to believe that I could support a wife and family, so my sweetheart of college days and I took the leap. After about two and a half years, our first child was on the way.

Imagine my surprise and consternation when I opened my pay envelope one Friday and found a pink slip terminating my position! I learned afterward that, in an effort to economize, the corporation's top brass had decided to fire all employees in my division who had been with the firm less than three years.

My first reaction was almost complete despair, but I began dutifully following up every possible lead for a salaried position. I practically wore out the soles of my shoes going from company to company, but I met with no success.
