What do you look for in a soul mate?
The search for the right companion begins with God.
The list of traits we might wish for in a companion could get pretty long and detailed. And could one individual actually fulfill all these needs and requirements?
Fortunately, the qualites we're looking for in an ideal companion are actually supplied to us directly by God. God has created us as His expression, to be His image and His likeness. So the nature of God as Father-Mother is expressed by each one of us. The qualities often associated with masculinity, such as strength, endurance, wisdom, are present with us as God's likeness, and so are the qualities considered feminine, for instance, tenderness, love, and gentleness.
What enables us to feel these qualities present with us, to feel our completeness as God's likeness? Science and Health explains, "It is only by acknowledging the supremacy of Spirit, which annuls the claims of matter, that mortals can lay off mortality and find the indissoluble spiritual link which establishes man forever in the divine likeness, inseparable from his creator" (p. 491).
